Best mental health practices for entrepreneurs
There’s a dirty secret many entrepreneurs face but seldom speak about: The toll that the challenges of owning a business can take on your mental health. The stress and challenges of building a business coupled with the isolation of working for yourself can feel overwhelming if you don’t have a support system.
A recent study by University of California researchers found that 72 percent of entrepreneurs are affected by mental health disorders, compared to 48 percent of non-business owners.
Here are a few ways you can safeguard your mental health:
Create Community
It’s important to find like minded entrepreneurs, friends and family members who understand your journey and who you can relate to. Whether it’s in person or online, who you surround yourself with will make a big difference in your mindset and wellbeing. That’s one of the reasons we created our Facebook group to bring female entrepreneurs together to share insights and advice while showing up authentically.
Practice Self Care
Self care is a term that gets thrown around alot, but supporting your mind, body and spirit can be part of small, daily habits. Whether it’s drinking enough water, taking walks or meeting a friend for lunch–make sure you carve out time in your busy schedule to do things just for you.
Get Professional Support
Having someone in your corner like a coach or therapist can make all the difference in the world. Sometimes we need to voice our struggles and having someone who can offer a reframe or positive feedback can shift everything.
We applaud entrepreneurs like Harvest Focused CEO Jasmine Hoyle who has made it her mission to create a community of women who think big and can support each other through the trials and tribulations of entrepreneurship. We instantly connected with her energy on Clubhouse and her authentic mission. Jasmine is the owner of 5 different businesses and Behind the Leaf gave her the nickname ”6 Million Dollar Woman.” As a key donor of the Flourish Media Conference, Jasmine’s generosity has paved the way for women in our support to build a supportive network.
Showing women like Jasmine is important to the tribe because women need to know that they can think big, make major dollars and give back to their community. Jasmine is a mother and a champion for other women like her to succeed in business. At Behind the Leaf it's our goal to help women make money faster! If you're reading this blog then you understand how important it is to fill your cup with positive messages and a tribe that believes in you.
