Rebecca's academic journey commenced at St. John’s University in Queens, New York, where she pursued a Bachelor of Science in Legal Studies alongside a minor in Psychology. Her insatiable curiosity and academic prowess propelled her to earn a Master of Arts in Government and Politics with a certificate in International Law and Diplomacy in just four years. Throughout her tenure, she showcased exceptional leadership skills, earning recognition in the prestigious President’s Society for her academic excellence and commitment to community service.
A Leap into Entertainment: From Music Enthusiast to Industry Professional
Undoubtedly influenced by her upbringing immersed in music, Rebecca ventured into the entertainment industry, initially at Sony Music Entertainment. There, she worked closely with music label executives and talents, safeguarding their intellectual property rights. Her journey continued at New York City’s Hot 97 radio station, where she swiftly ascended the ranks, collaborating on key client accounts and signature events, including the iconic Summer Jam.
The Legal Journey: Specialization and Expertise
Rebecca’s insatiable thirst for knowledge and her passion for law led her to pursue a Juris Doctor, specializing in Intellectual Property Law at the University of Florida. During her tenure, she made significant contributions as an editor for the Journal of Technology Law and Public Policy and served as the Vice President for the Entertainment and Sports Law Society.
Rising Through the Ranks: Legal Acumen and Professional Growth
Following law school, Rebecca joined Akerman LLP, a renowned law firm, where she honed her expertise in transactional matters, including contract negotiations, mergers and acquisitions, and intellectual property law. Her outstanding legal acumen caught the attention of Amazon Music, where she served as legal counsel, negotiating groundbreaking deals with talent and creators, including a monumental label deal valued at $1.2 billion.
Advocacy and Giving Back: Championing Diversity and Community Service
Beyond her professional endeavors, Rebecca is a staunch advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion in the entertainment industry. She actively participates in organizations such as Women in Music and the Black Entertainment and Sports Lawyers Association, striving to empower underrepresented voices and foster a more inclusive environment. Rebecca’s commitment to giving back to her community is equally commendable. As a volunteer attorney for the Haitian Lawyers Association and Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, she extends her legal expertise to support marginalized communities and emerging artists.
