How To Stay In Shape and Keep Your Routine While On The Road
Traveling for work many times mean it’s one thing after another on your itinerary. Every day may feel like it’s crunch time. Typically working out and traveling don’t go hand in hand, but what if we told you that it is very possible to remain in shape and keep your routine while on the road?
It’s obvious that no one really wants to spend hours on end exercising while they’re traveling especially when it’s work related. You may be Franny Fitness when you're at home, but then the travel sets in and it feels like everything you have worked for goes down the drain. Your timezone is off, your exhausted from the hustle and bustle of the airport, all you want to do is lay in your bed and hibernate until you absolutely have to get up! We get it. Hopefully this blog motivates you to keep up your fitness even when on the road. The Flourish N Fit approach is about maximizing output while minimizing input. It’s not required to spend much time on your routine, the little things are what goes a long way. Here are 5 tips that will help you stay aligned with your health and fitness goals.
Focus on quick full body resistant and HIIT workouts. When you strength-train, you build your muscles, joints, and tendons stronger each time. You’re preparing them for any activity you throw at them. Best of all, it’s quick, targets every muscle in your body with just a few functional movements, and can completed anywhere. This workout can help you get strong and healthy and still have plenty of time to do whatever else you need to do.
Work out with buddies or co workers if you can. In a study of 117 adults out of the University of Southern California, those who work out with partner said they enjoyed the exercise more than those who got sweaty solo. Makes sense. Exercising with somebody will make it go by quicker and it’s great for accountability!
Stay hydrated! Water should be your BFF when traveling. It is recommended that we consume 3-4 liters of water every day, and this is even more important when you are out and about in hot climates. Not only does this help control appetite and prevent overeating because often dehydration is mistaken for hunger, but it helps reduce excessive water retention and bloating.
Be clever when dining out. This doesn’t mean you have to deprive yourself from local dishes or some of the best food in the city. Just be smart about it. Don’t be afraid to ask how meals are prepared or to swap out items, such as asking for some fresh vegetables instead of something deep-fried, or for oily sauces/dressings to be served on the side. You can always split a meal too!
Do the best you can! At the end of the day remember you are traveling, so don’t push yourself too hard to achieve the perfect work out or stay fully on top of your health game. Make sure to stay active throughout the trip, remember that exercise doesn’t always have to feel like exercise. A simple action as parking far away or choosing the stairs instead of the elevator. Those small things can add exercise to your routine.
