Strategies for Hashtags

Strategies for Hashtags

Hashtags help you discover new content, search topics and follow conversations on social platforms. They can also be a great tool in helping you grow your online community and expanding your network. According to Buffer, using hashtags on platforms such as Twitter could help double your impressions.  Here’s a few tips on how you can use hashtags to grow your business:

Know the difference:

Will you be using hashtags for campaigns or your brand? Campaign Hashtags should describe your current marketing initiatives. For example, Wendy’s was running a campaign where if customers posted a picture of their Flatbread Grilled Chicken sandwich on twitter with the hashtag #twEATfor1k they were entered in a chance to win $1,000.

Brand Hashtags should be specific to your brand, think of them as a tagline. Do your research and try to think of an original brand hashtag to avoid confusion with other businesses. Your brand hashtag should reflect your brand message and voice.

Content hashtags are used to help you increase interactions and visibility. These hashtags should be related to your business and attract your target audience.

Use Accordingly:

Depending on the platform you use, sometimes less is more when sing content hashtags. If you’re using Twitter using a couple specific and niche hashtags will be your best option to share your post and get the most traffic. However when using platforms such as Instagram and Pinterest, more hashtags are better to help expand your visibility and reach. Facebook allows you to use hashtags as well but it’s also recommended to use few and specific hashtags. Avoid using hashtags that are overpopulated, using hashtags related to your industry and business will help your post not get lost among unrelated content. Also using local hashtags will help you find local clientele.
