How to create a mood board for your brand
A mood board creates a visual representation for your brand. This includes visual elements such as fonts, colors and patterns that identify your brand. These elements should invoke the emotions you want your audience to feel and is one of the most important steps in the branding process.
By using platforms such a Pinterest or Canva, you can also design a mood board to help create a visual representation of your brand that can be used for design elements and brand visuals.
Elements
The psychology of colors can create powerful connections with your brand.
Just because you like a color doesn’t mean that is what your brand should be if it doesn’t create the feeling state your brand invokes. For the emotion of calm you might want to use neutral tones, blues or pastels. Colors like red or yellow can create a sense of urgency and grab attention.
When you are putting together your mood board, you want to think about the first impression your brand will have on those who encounter it for the first time. If your note sure of the emotions you want speak to, consider why you started your business and how your clients feel from the results your product or service offers.
Other elements to search for include photos, quotes, textures and typography.
What words describe your brand? Is your brand fun, playful or sophisticated. You can search these terms in the Pinterest search feature to discover images that reflect the qualities you want to create.
What we like most about Pinterest is that it allows you to easily capture the images you are putting together and look at your brand on the board as a whole. All you have to do is use the “create a board” button on the left hand of the screen, name your board and add details such as a description of category.
Consistency
The most important thing is creating consistency over time. If you look at legacy brands such as Tiffany’s or Chanel, you will see uniform branding and images. When you invest time and resources in creating a strong brand identity, you will make the best impression on your customers.
Feedback
We recommend polling your audience and getting feedback from your favorite customers about your brand ideas. You should be co-creating with them in the process and ensuring that your brand visuals resonate with them every step of the way.
