The New Friends With Benefits: Is It Right For You?
We’ve all been programmed to believe that going to the best universities = getting the best job. Well I’m here to tell you that’s not the case anymore. The most important thing you can do for your resume is network and make connections along the way. Of course going to school and getting a degree is important but who you meet along the way and what you do with those connections is just as important. I know networking can be scary but it’s the best thing you can do for your resume whether you use it for personal career growth or to help a friend grow in their career.
Pros to using a personal connection:
Comfortable communication
Trust
The warm and fuzzy feeling of helping someone out
Cons to using a personal connection:
Power struggle
- The not so warm and fuzzy feeling of helping someone out and it going sour
If you’re still not convinced that using your personal connections will benefit you just think of yourself or your connection like a product or a brand. And remember, people are usually more inclined to buy something from a business they have a personal connection to ;)
