Why Are YouTubers Flocking to Remake This High Traffic Video?

Why Are YouTubers Flocking to Remake This High Traffic Video?

Youtubers are sharing business ideas videos at an alarming rate since the global pandemic sent workers home indefinitely. Google "Work at home..." and you'll see plenty of video options ranging from titles like "Careers of the Future" and "At Home Career for Moms."

A trend I do not agree with is the "business ideas for women" category. Video after video encouraging women and especially mothers to pursue a career in graphic design, website design, and as a virtual assistant.

Are these work from home jobs? Yes.

Are these careers with high enough demand to be sustainable? Debatable.

Are these industries oversaturated and therefore harder to pursue than the Youtuber in question may have you believe? I say yes!

Women want to run profitable businesses and not just businesses in industries that are “women-friendly.” If I see one more video telling women to be graphic designers or virtual assistants, as if the skills to flourish are easy to obtain, I’m going to lose it.

The fact is during the pandemic advertisers are pulling funding. Youtubers are seeing higher watch times but they are learning that people at home watching have money on their minds. Instead of making typical surface-level content, creators are being forced to create content that appeals to topics they have not had to address before.

Instead of making content that can easily contain product placement from beauty brands or gaming companies, creators are publishing content that has high retention rates. The move to produce high retention videos makes sense but is not always grounded in useful research.

This move pads their pockets by increasing their payouts from Google Adsense, which is calculated by CPM. CPM called cost per mille, is a marketing term used to denote the price of 1,000 advertisement impressions on one webpage. If a website publisher charges $2.00 CPM, that means an advertiser must pay $2.00 for every 1,000 impressions of its ad.

3 years ago I made my most popular video to date called “Most Profitable Business Ideas for Women.” With all the changes we have experienced since then, I thought it was time to revisit this list and add one key factor others seem to ignore.
