Tribe Feature: Kreative Koncepts
How have you been dealing with COVID-19? Working from home, social distancing, avoiding gatherings and public places? Yeah, us too. But for our Tribe member Kreative Koncepts, they have been focusing their energy into helping our community here in South Florida during this unprecedented time.
“We help the youth, elderly, and local Community Action Groups.” says Dr.Keya Brandon, the organization’s top leader. “We mainly work with Community Develop programs in the Florida area by helping them prepare for a crisis.”
Kreative Koncepts, a non-profit that gains funds through various types of grants and private funding sources, has been utilizing their ability to adapt. Just like all of us, their daily routine has dramatically changed since the pandemic started two months ago. The community they are used to working with is now distant, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t staying connected virtually.
“Like most, I am using virtual sources like Zoom to maintain contact with my team and clients.”, notes Dr.Brandon. “Because we develop programs that are tailored to the community's needs to help the youth and the elder population, Kreative Koncepts flourishes when we are able to collaborate with other organizations within that community to bring fun but educational programing content to enhance our community.”
We all get a bit overwhelmed from time to time, but because Kreative Koncepts is currently taking a step back from being as involved with their community they have been using this time to focus on their team’s mental health.
“It's important to do what's fun for you. Oftentimes, we businesswomen are trying to balance families while conducting business. If you do not take care of yourself first then you can not be there for anyone or anything else. You will find yourself drained and may even begin to resent important obligations. It all starts with you!”
Dr.Brandon understands that self care and spending quality time doing what you enjoy is important, especially during this unusual stressful time.
“A self care tip I can offer to other businesswomen is that they need to take time for themselves and to unplug with a nice bath or something they find entertaining and fun.”
But when it comes to planning for Kreative Koncepts' next steps after COVID-19, this non-profit isn’t afraid to take risks that will have lasting impacts for not only their team but for the families they assist.
“With any business there is a level of risk and investment you must take. Therefore it comes down to what types of risks you are comfortable with.”
We all know how important community is. Having a tribe you can depend on and share accomplishments with makes all of this so much more worth it. And Dr.Brandon is well prepared to implement new endeavors and risks into her business.
“A tribe is very important! Because I believe that there is enough in this world for growth if anyone so chooses.”, she notes. “ I am always open to collaborating and supporting other businesses along this journey. It's hard and extremely competitive in this business world, you have to keep the right things in perspective.”
