Meet Genevieve Piturro, an author, speaker, and most importantly a philanthropist. She has inspired audiences around the US through her story of giving back. She has been recognized by major corporations, magazines, and appeared on shows like The Oprah Winfrey Show, Hallmark Channel, and many more. Hearing Genevieve’s story will surely touch your heart and make you reflect on how you can be a part of a greater good. Here’s Genevieve’s story...

Genieve was climbing the corporate ladder and was very successful at what she did. She was 12 years into her career as a successful TV marketing executive in New York City. She asked herself if she could see herself continuing her career for the next 30 years, and so she decided to make a change. Family was very important to Genieve, so she chose to dedicate her time to helping underprivileged children at homeless shelters in the city. She started her philanthropy work by giving pajama sets to children in need. Bedtime was always a warm and loving time for Genieve growing up. And she noticed that the sheltered children needed a change of clothes when it was time for bed - most of these children had nothing. It was when Genieve had an interaction with a little girl that changed everything for her. Genieve had attempted to give a set of pink pajamas to a little girl whose clothes were soiled and worn. The little girl denied the pajamas the first two times, but Genieve insisted on giving them to her. It was on the third try when the little girl asked Genieve a question that changed Genieve’s life forever. “What are they?”, the little girl asked innocently as Genieve handed the girl the pajamas. This question broke Genieve’s heart, and she realized what she was doing would soon turn into her life’s purpose. From that point on, Genieve decided to dedicate her life to making the nonprofit, “The Pajama Program”, where she’s helped millions of children in need to have a better night’s sleep through a set of pajamas and establishing a healthy night routine for children in need... If that didn’t tug on your heart strings, I don’t know what will!

Flourish Media had the opportunity to speak with Genieve to learn more about being a women entrepreneur, and also her words of wisdom for women looking to leave their corporate careers. With the publicity Genieve received from her successful non-profit, she has taken the time to build her own brand as an author and motivational speaker. Her personal brand teaches others how to take raw human connection and turn it into a life purpose. For her, it was the interaction she had with the little girl, which led her to donating 7 million pajamas to children across the US.

I went from stuffing the back seat of my Toyota with Pajamas to receiving thousands of them on the Oprah show while sitting next to Oprah herself as a supporter of the Pajama Program.

We asked her some self-care tips that other businesswomen should try, and she recommended trying meditation and creating vision boards since this helped her dreams become reality. We also asked for her thoughts on tribe and how important tribe is to her business. She answered, “Our volunteers are everything and anyone who shares our story of providing a small insignificant thing such as a pair of pajamas to change a person's life is priceless. I am now using my 20 year experience of running the Pajama Program to inspire and help others to pursue their true purpose like I did - even when it is scary.”

We are so inspired by Genieve's story and congratulate her on her success. To learn more about the Pajama Program you can visit their website. To learn more about Genieve and her brand as an author and motivational speaker, make sure to visit her site and all her social media platforms!
